About
Our Graphic Designer Is On Leave or Our Graphic Designer Is On Vacation is a trend that was popularized among corporate, brand and gimmick accounts in the 2020s. The advertising trend typically revolves around the brand posting a low-effort or crude post promoting their product or service, alongside a caption about its graphic designer going on vacation. The posts typically depict hand-drawn artwork or crude computer graphics made using MS Paint or typical online design presets, like the Graphic Design Is My Passion meme, urging customers to buy the product despite the poor promotional design.
Origin
The trend in which brands jokingly present a crude or low effort advertisement with the tagline, "our designer is on vacation," can be traced as far back as 2019, as seen in a May 31st, 2019, Facebook post by Carlene Jackson[1] showing a billboard promoting JAJA tequila.

Spread
The concept began gathering traction after 2020 as more brands and companies began creating similar marketing stunts and campaigns.
For example, the Facebook[2] account Fitment Industries made a post on August 29th, 2022, following the "our graphic designer is on leave" template, writing, "Sorry guys, our graphic designer is on Vacation. Rate this sick car from 0-100. 🔥"

On June 27th, 2023, the Instagram[3] account @faecrate made a post promoting their new books via a crude MS Paint graphic, writing, "POV: Your graphic designer is on vacation, but you have to announce low stock warnings. It’s still convincing, right? Please say you’re convinced 😂." The post gathered over 2,700 likes in two years.

On September 30th, 2023, the X[4] account of Turkish soccer team Galatasaray S.K. (@Galatasaray) tweeted a written list of their players' names and jersey numbers, gathering over 26,000 likes in two years on a post titled, "Our designer is on leave today. 🙃"

The trend began gaining significant traction in 2025, as seen in an August 23rd, 2025, Instagram[5] post by GarnierUK that shows a crudely drawn bottle of micellar water alongside a caption that read, "our content creator is on leave, this is what the rest of the team came up with." The post gathered over 10,000 likes in a month.
