Aliens vs. the Indomitable Human Spirit, also known as We Were Born To Inherit the Stars, refers to a series of memes that imagine a battle or confrontation between aliens and humans in which the seemingly superior and technologically advanced alien is surprised by the "Indomitable Human Spirit." Aliens vs. humans powerscaling edits related to the Indomitable Human Spirit surfaced in 2023. However, the concept went largely viral in early 2024 via a slew of slow fade-in memes. Many of the videos used the song "Exit Music" by Radiohead.

Origin

Currently, the first discovered aliens vs. humans meme to reference the Indomitable Human Spirit was posted by TikToker^[1] @mysteriofett on September 27th, 2023. The fancam edit used the Crying Wojak vs. Yes Chad template with the later Wojak labeled "HUMANITY." In the video's description, the TikToker wrote, "The Indomitable Human Spirit 🔱." Over eight months, the video received roughly 57,500 plays and 2,800 likes (shown below).

Going into late 2023, others on the app referenced aliens vs. the Indomitable Human Spirit, such as TikToker^[2] @profile_1991 on December 22nd, 2023, earning over 1.8 million plays and 263,200 likes in five months (shown below, left).

On February 21st, 2024, TikToker^[3] @wafflem28 posted a slow fade-in meme that read, "INDOMITABLE HUMAN SPIRIT," in its description, gaining over 479,100 plays and 90,500 likes in three months (shown below, right).

On March 30th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @placeboheadinn posted a Slow Fade-In meme with an alien staring, a sound of a man screaming and text reading, "you thought the indomitable human spirit was a myth until you've shot him twice with a plasma ray, but he gets up and pumps you with element 82." The video received over 2.7 million plays and 436,700 likes in a month (shown below, left).

Going into April 2024, many of the memes posted as a part of the trend followed the aforementioned format that slowly fades in a staring alien image macro. For instance, on April 18th, TikToker^[5] @arlo_2602 posted an iteration, receiving over 11.3 million plays and 2.4 million likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

We Were Born To Inherit the Stars

On April 15th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @1_kirxzyy_1 posted an iteration of the meme (using the song "Exit Music" by Radiohead as the TikTok sound^[7]), including the line "We Were Born To Inherit the Stars" being chanted by the human in the scenario. The video received over 1.4 million plays and 286,600 likes in 16 days (shown below).
