YouTuber Dax Flame (aka Daxflame) is one of the internet's most treasured mysteries. The man (who might be an elaborate character) has recently gone viral on TikTok.

Flame's latest slew of viral videos feature him in a Target store, practicing his jokes on people, trying to make strangers laugh and (oftentimes) reverting to his classic "pool noodles" joke. For many new viewers, Dax Flame is once again igniting the debate: is Dax Flame real or a character?

Who Is Dax Flame?

Dax Flame is 32 years old and he was born in Dallas, Texas. He now resides in Los Angeles, California which is where he makes most of his current content.

In our interview with Dax Flame from 2021, the YouTuber retold the history of his online presence. He started posting to YouTube in the early days of the website, way back in 2007. He went viral for his video diary entries, such as "Diary 30: Superman Is Coming to School" and its follow-up "Diary 31: Humiliation."

At 15 years old, Dax Flame had become the 16th most subscribed YouTuber. He then pivoted to Hollywood and starred in the comedy films Project X and 21 Jump Street (which he often namedrops in his recent videos to a hilarious degree).

Is Dax Flame A Character?

Since his start, internet users and celebrities alike have tried to decipher the inner machinations of Dax Flame's mind, trying to figure out, is this guy real or is he acting? Flame's lolcow status is up for debate.

For instance, when comedian and early YouTuber Bo Burnham met Dax Flame in 2008, he was stumped. On the subject, Burnham wondered if he was a genius, or rather, Burnham knew he was a genius but was unsure about how he was a genius.

YouTuber iDubbbz also took a notable swing at Dax Flame's mystery back in 2020, when he released the roughly hour-long Dax Flame documentary "Ice Cream Man." iDubbbz embedded himself in Flame's life at the time, concluding that, if Flame is playing a character, he's the most committed actor of all time.

Who's Dax Flame On TikTok?

On TikTok (as well as on Instagram Reels), Dax Flame has returned to confuse a new generation of internet users who weren't around during his initial YouTube ascent. His new style involves talking to strangers at Target, trying to make them laugh with his improv jokes, mostly centered on the shelved products around them.

A new slew of interest in Dax Flame has since sprouted. Flame even has his own copycats that are giving his new videos the homage treatment, such as Bob Fire, a Zoomer practicing the Dax Flame cadence.
